In the USA, airline pilots, I guess pilots in general, have a social status that is generally good or at least interesting to the average person on the street. Is this something that is typical in most developed countries?

For anyone not in aviation (and take this with a grain of salt as I’m still just an aviation student), this seems to be the most comprehensive and realistic review I’ve seen. It expects specific compounding with market returns in the 401k, which is a big variable/assumption, but he intentionally left buffer by not adding in future pay raises. To put pay raises in perspective, the new/most recent contacts increased 12 year captain pay by over 100$ per hour. With the 1,000 credit hour per year factor, this is $100,000 extra per year, per 12 year captain. If you expect periodic raises every 10 years (which these happen more frequently, but we will assume 3 over 30 years for buffer), and expect only half the same pay raises each time (50$ per hour each raises for wide body 12 year Capitan instead of 100$ like the most recent contracts give), and understand it’s not just the 12 year captains that get raises, you’re potentially looking at a couple million extra dollars directly earned through pure salary to be added to these numbers. This does not including the increase in 401k contribution from a couple million dollars in higher wages at 18% dc (or more as they could continue to bump it up with future contracts, I won’t speculate with real numbers here), or the compounding growth from higher 401k balances. This part could bring this total past the 30 million mark. Obviously these are not guarantees, but it’s exciting to see that even with a large amount of buffer included in his calculations, the lifetime salary of a pilot is quite amazing. Well deserved too. A friend of a friend works at Emirates, he was offered a >$38k monthly plus many other benefits such as >$26k educational and accommodation if he joined Riyadh air and moved to Riyadh. I can't confirm this, because I can't imagine how possible they can make any profit paying such salaries.

Hi Caner, thanks for this awesome video of your voyage going to Antarctica. Seeing those huge Icebergs floating in the water was really magnificent. The one that was long like a wall very very impressive. I didn't know if the Salt Water would be Salty once frozen. Looking it up they say that once the Water is frozen the Salt comes out from the Ice. It is very fascinating how complex nature is. Seeing all of the Whales in the water was amazing on video and probably even more so being there to experience it in person. Safe travels Caner. Looking forward to your next adventure.
